College Support Program
College Support Program
The Community School continues to support and work with our students after graduation. The students can join in our College Support Program, which provides study space, computer access, tutoring assistance, as well as help with college and financial aid applications and course registration. This program is now open to anyone who is interested in attending college, not just our students.
College Support Program
The Community School remains true to its mission:
The Community School is an academic and mentoring program, based in the Remington community, for young people who want to advance their education, improve their lives and better their community.
Although this has been accomplished primarily through our work with students in our full time day program, over the last decade this has also been extended to graduates seeking higher education. The College Support Program formalizes this effort though it is primarily a mentoring and support program that also offers academic assistance. The focus of our effort has been on graduates of the school, but we have now expanded it to include other high school graduates who would like assistance.
Here is what we offer:
Counseling for students to provide information and assist them in making decisions regarding choosing a college and course of study.
Advice and assistance for students and families on filing for financial aid.
Assistance with filling out all necessary paper work during the application process and accompanying students to the college campus as they go through this process.
Assistance with scheduling and preparation for the college accuplacer test and/or retests.
Tutoring assistance 4 days a week during regularly scheduled times at the school to help students with their studies.
Advice and assistance with degree preparation, transfers or problems at school throughout your higher education.
Invitations to all open school events and volunteer opportunities.
Here is what we expect:
To remain a participant in the College Support Program, the student needs to maintain regular open and honest communication with the program staff, share his or her grades during the semester, and provide a transcript at the end of each semester.
