Newsflash 7/2/07 St. Agnes Foundation donated the first contribution of the new fiscal year!. They gave $2,000 to support the health curriculum in the new school term.  Special thanks go to Sherry Welch, President of the foundation and active volunteer and Board member at the school. The St. Agnes community also donated computers to the school.  Thanks to Larry Lawson for arranging this kind donation.

Newsflash 7/9/07 The Board of Trustees announces a major contribution from the Bancroft Family Fund to help with this summer’s building renovation project.  In making this donation, Ken & Paulette Bancroft expressed their desire to support the school to assure that educational opportunities are available in the Remington community where they grew up.  Our deepest thanks to the Bancroft family for their involvement in the school and their gifts of time and resources.

Newsflash 7/13/07  Ground was broken for the building renovation project today. Mac Fox broke up the concrete in the backyard and is rebuilding the masonry wall and entrance to the yard.  Mac was a student in the school back when it first started classes nearly 25 years ago, though he remembers when we used to serve lunches to kids in the community back in 1978. The project will secure the shell of the existing school facility and add space in the building in the back.  The project has funding from the France-Merrick Foundation and the Bancroft Family Fund with additional volunteer and financial support from within the school community. Eddie Gavin, owner of CSC Construction is giving his time to manage the project,  Eddie was one of the founders of our organization back when he was just a young teenager.

Newsflash 7/17/07 A grant of $1,000 was announced by the Food Lion Foundation today to go toward purchasing food for our student pantry in the new year.  The school provides food for breakfast, lunch and snacks for the students to help keep them well fed during their long days in class. Thank you to all of those at Food Lion, to Cheryl Hill for putting us in touch with them, and to Development Committee Chair Peggy Lashbrook for writing the proposal..

Newsflash 7/19/07 The school received a donation of more computers today from the State of Maryland through the Department of Human Resources.  Governor Martin O’Malley sent a letter in which he said, “Your commitment to The Community School is to be commended. I am confident that this equipment will be a great asset to The Community School as well as those in your community.”  Special appreciation goes to Cheryl Hill of the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives for arranging this contribution. We also thank Kenneth Moore from the Department of Human resources for preparing the computers and delivering them to the school.
